Got Ice?

One thing that our customers often ask us is, how warm is it?

During the Summer months the average daily temperature is 61 degrees, and during the Spring and Fall months the average daily temperature is 53.  Even though we are located in “Icy Bay”, our location right on the coast keeps us warmer than most places in Alaska.

If you have a trip planned to come see us this year, we recommend bringing the following layers.

  1. Polypropolene – Poly is recommended as your base layer because of it’s moisture wicking capabilities.  Regardless of a warm or cold day in Alaska, you can’t go wrong with a base of poly.
  2. Wool Top – If it’s a colder day wearing a layer of wool on top of your base layer will help keep your core warm and dry
  3. Fleece Top and Bottoms – Fleece is the last layer before your rain gear or waders and jacket, and will keep you warm throughout the day.  We really like anything with the “windbreaker” material built in.  Our favorite is the Columbia Titanium line of fleece jackets.
  4. Wool Socks and Poly Liners
  5. Gore Tex or similar quality rain gear.  Since we live in a rainforest, we don’t go anywhere without it.
